There’s Something About “There’s Pumpkin About You”

DESCRIPTION: I left my boyfriend after years of him whittling away at me, my talents, and my sense of self-worth. Then, I left my day job to launch my party planning venture. It had great start. Before it started falling off a cliff. If I want to save Second Chance Event, I need to convince grumpy but hot-as-hell Gus Fitch to let me use his pumpkin farm for my best friend’s birthday bash.

I have enough troubles trying to save our family’s Goldleaf Pumpkin Farm after being left in a lurch. And now, here comes Wren Southwick–all pretty, bubbly, and pushy–adding more pressure with her crazy plan to use our rundown barn for a party. But if she thinks bringing me my favorite coffee from Sweet Cinnamon Café every day will do the trick, she’s got another think … well, ….

What Had Me Jonesing

  • The fall vibes were vibrant as fall peeping season colors in New England. The pumpkin farm and its rundown barn that needs an intervention, the Sweet Cinnamon Café, the Doughnut Miss This Bakery 😍, and the cozy, small-town feel complete with quirky neighbors with long ears and big noses–all delivered beautiful autumn vibes.
  • The slow, but steady buildup of Gus and Wren’s relationship from snark and bluster to understanding and caring kept me wanting more of this story.
  • The humorous, tension-filled, spicy banter between Wren and Gus. Loved it.
  • I really can’t say enough about how beautifully the author handled Gus’ struggle with autism and how the couple navigated it. I found it informative without slowing down or weighing down the story. For me personally, it was eye-opening and thought-provoking and helpful to me in a relationship with a family member.

What Struck Me

  • Some of the language seemed off for the U.S.-based story with U.S. American characters.
  • Knowing what I know about the USA (particularly small-town USA, where I grew up), the complete bypass of race and interracial relationship issues–or even the mere mention of it by the main characters or the quirky secondary characters–seemed unrealistic. Especially so, when Wren tells Gus she can’t imagine what it is like being/feeling different.
  • My own little obsession/quirk moment. 😍 The USA is gigantic. I found myself constantly wondering — what state are they in?! 🤔 If I missed it, PLEASE help a sister out and tell me.

Tropes

  • Enemies to Lovers
  • Grumpy and Sunshine
  • Grumpy and Pushy (I made it up, so sue me 😜)
  • Slow Burn

Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a sweet read that puts you in the Halloween, Thanksgiving, bright-fall-days, cold-outside, and cozy-fireplace-inside mood, look no further than There’s Pumpkin About You. It has all the fall vibes one can ask for and a pair of flawed, but endearing enemies-to-lovers characters starring in a romance that warms the heart.

My character meme for Wren and Gus:
